Chiefly the personal and professional papers of Walter Spencer Robertson (1893-1970), of "Milburne," Richmond, Va. The collections contains correspondence, financial records, professional papers (relating mostly Robertson's work as Assistant Secretary of State for Far Eastern Affairs, 1953-1959), military papers (relating to his service in the U.S. Army Air Service during World War I and the Air Service Reserves), scrapbooks (including newspaper clippings and photographs chronicling Robertson's professional career as Chief of the U.S. Lend-Lease Mission to Australia, 1943-1944; as American Minister at the U.S. Embassy in Chungking [now Chongqing], China, 1945-1946; and as Assistant Secretary of State for Far Eastern Affairs), and other miscellaneous materials. Also included in this collection are papers and materials relating to various members of Robertson's family including his wife, Mary Dade (Taylor) Robertson (1899-2001), his cousin William Henry Robertson (1885-1950), his in-laws Jaquelin P. Taylor (1861-1950) and Katherine (Wall) Taylor (1870-1965), and other family members.
